Leaked: UK £7 billion export credit for fossil fuel industry violates ‘clean energy’ pledge

Between 2011 and 2016 the UK’s export finance agency UKEF provided £109m to underwrite exports of equipment to coal mines in Russia, writes Lawrence Carter – despite the agency’s commitment not to support ‘investment in dirty fossil-fuel energy production’. And that’s just a fraction of the £6.9 billion UKEF has lavished on the corrupt, polluting sector since 2000, while it was meant to be backing the clean energy technologies of the future.

Leaked: ‘new TTIP’ TISA deal could prevent global action on climate change

The Trade in Services Agreement is a multilateral deal like TPP, TTIP and CETA, writes Zachary Davies Boren. But while the 50-nation negotiations are even more secretive, its impacts could be even greater: undermining national sovereignty; allowing only corporate regulation deemed ‘necessary’ by a panel of WTO lawyers; and allowing no rollback on trade liberalisation.

Leaked official report: EU Nature Directives are ‘fit for purpose’

The official ‘fitness test’ on the EU’s nature directives carried out for the EU Commission under its ‘better regulation’ initiative finds that the laws are ‘fit for purpose’ in every respect, writes Oliver Tickell. But there’s a mystery: the report was completed in January, yet it remains unpublished. Did it reach the ‘wrong’ conclusion for a Commission intent on a bonfire of red tape?

Leaked letter: Rudd admits 25% green energy undershoot, misled Parliament

A letter from Energy Secretary Amber Rudd leaked to The Ecologist shows that she deliberately misled Parliament by promising the UK was ‘on course’ to deliver on its renewable energy targets – when in fact there is a delivery shortfall in 2020 of almost 25%. Her plan to fill the gap relies on more biofuels, buying in green power and ‘credits’ from abroad – everything but wind and solar.

All rights reserved! The final leaked TPP text is all that we feared

The leaked chapter of the Trans Pacific Partnership chapter on intellectual property represents a wholesale attack on internet freedom, investigative journalism, and the wider creative commons, writes Jeremy Malcolm. While massively advancing corporate financial interests in binding clauses, the parts that purport to protect information users are soft guidelines that cannot be enforced.

Leaked: EU Commission plot to ditch waste and air pollution laws

An anti-environment plot by Junckers’ Commission would abandon agreed ‘green’ laws for clean air, waste reduction and recycling. But the leak of key documents to EurActiv has stimulated fierce opposition by Green MEPs and environment groups, while eleven EU countries have called on Junckers to hold to the green laws and speed up their implementation.

Leaked Sellafield photos reveal ‘massive radioactive release’ threat

Dilapidated nuclear waste storage ponds abandoned 40 years ago containing hundreds of tonnes of fuel rods pose an immediate danger to public safety, photographs sent to The Ecologist reveal. The fuel and sludge in the ponds could spontaneously ignite if exposed to air, spreading intense radiation over a wide area.
